Associazione Conciatori

The Associazione Conciatori [Tanners Association] was founded in Santa Croce in 1976 as a non-profit organization to create a union of the tanning companies in the district.

At present, the Associazione Conciatori reunites around 260 associated tanneries specializing in chrome tanning, vegetable tanning and in the production of local leather in the municipalities of Santa Croce sull'Arno, Castefranco di Sotto and Fucecchio.

Thanks to the decisive role of the Association in the development and growth of the tanning industry throughout all of these years, the tanneries have been able to address and resolve the major environmental issues related to the sector. Some of the most important issues have been: the construction of central purification plants and the construction of new industrial areas to transfer tanneries away from urban areas; the recovery of processing by-products and the re-use of sewage sludge. A constant commitment to minimizing the impact on the environment.

These are the services rendered by the Associazione Conciatori:

• Representation of the category with regard to the public administration, trade unions and economic organizations
• Assistance to associated companies in environmental matters, financial help, international trade shows, vocational training, security, etc…
• Promotion of consortium companies dealing with problem solving in the sector such as acquisition of raw materials and services tailored to the businesses
